A custom domain lets you send and receive Scouty outreach from a domain or subdomain your company controls. Scouty supports one custom domain per account, shared by every project in that account.
Use a subdomain such as mail.example.com when possible. Changing MX records on your main company domain can affect existing email service.

Where to manage it

Open Dashboard → Custom domain at /dashboard/settings/custom-domain. The page is available even if you created projects before adding a domain. If no custom domain exists, Write emails also shows Custom domain — Optional. After a domain is added, step 6 shows a short status and Manage in Dashboard so the email flow can continue without repeating setup.

Add a domain

You must be the workspace owner or an admin.
1

Check the name

Enter the full domain or subdomain under Domain or subdomain, then select Check domain.
2

Resolve conflicts

Scouty checks whether the name can be used and warns about existing MX records. If it suggests a safer subdomain, review it before continuing.
3

Add the domain

Select Add domain when the result is available.
4

Copy every DNS record

Add each displayed record at your DNS provider. Use the copy buttons for Name and Value to avoid transcription errors.
5

Check the connection

After saving DNS changes, select Check connection. Scouty checks sending and receiving separately.

Read the DNS table

Cloudflare users should set the displayed CNAME to DNS only, not proxied. Other providers may use different wording for the same behavior.

Wait for DNS propagation

DNS changes can take time to appear after you save them. Your custom domain is ready when both sending and receiving show Ready. When either status is waiting, check the record values, wait, then select Check connection again. If Scouty shows a specific issue, correct that record before retrying. Ask the person who manages your domain for help if you cannot change DNS settings. The two summary states are independent:
  • Sending — Ready means outgoing mail can use the custom domain.
  • Receiving — Ready means replies can arrive through the custom domain.
Do not send new outreach from the custom address until the required status is ready. If the sending address changes after you reviewed a draft, review the draft again.

Delete a domain

Select Delete domain and confirm. Project sending addresses return to their hosted Mermail addresses. Sent email, conversation history, and existing message links remain intact. If adding, checking, or deleting a domain takes too long, reload the page and review the current status before trying again.
